A great deal of the movie was shot in the Trona Pinnacles outside of Ridgecrest. The sets were rather elaborate. They put a lot of dough into this -- hardly worth the dime if it's going to be schlock. Step Brothers and Semi-Pro definitely missed the mark. I'd expect )or hope) the studio put a little more thought into this one.
